LGBTQ+ Couple’s Session in San Miguel de Allende | Sam & Ashley
There’s something about San Miguel de Allende that invites you to slow down—to wander without a plan and fully take in the moment. It’s one of the reasons it has become such a sought-after destination for couples planning weddings in Mexico.
Sam and Ashley traveled from Phoenix, Arizona for their destination wedding, and a few days before their celebration, we met for a couples session in the heart of this historic city. As a San Miguel de Allende photographer, these sessions are some of my favorites—they allow couples to experience the city while creating meaningful, natural images along the way.
We explored the iconic cobblestone streets, surrounded by colorful architecture and soft, glowing light. This is exactly why I love photographing in San Miguel—the city itself becomes part of the composition, offering layers of texture, symmetry, and depth at every turn. My approach here is thoughtfully guided, with an emphasis on intentional posing that highlights the structure of the architecture—using doorways, archways, and strong lines within the streets to create balanced, visually striking images while still capturing their natural connection.
What made this session especially meaningful was how effortless Sam and Ashley were together. Their connection felt natural, relaxed, and deeply genuine—the kind of energy that makes moments like these so powerful to document.
They chose outfits that felt distinct from their wedding day attire, leaning into a more traditional look with an old-world Mexican flair. One of my favorite details was the hats they purchased locally in town—such a simple addition, but it tied their photos directly to the experience of being in San Miguel.
As we wandered through quiet streets and hidden corners, we captured a mix of editorial-style portraits and candid, in-between moments. Some images feel polished and intentional, while others reflect the spontaneity of the day—laughter, movement, and the way they naturally leaned into each other.
For couples planning a destination wedding in San Miguel de Allende, scheduling a session like this before or after the wedding day is such a meaningful way to slow down and connect. It gives you space to experience the city together while also creating images that feel personal and unhurried.
Sam and Ashley’s session was exactly that—a moment of calm before the celebration, set against one of the most beautiful cities in Mexico. And in a place like San Miguel, those moments don’t just pass—they stay with you.
