A Joy-Filled San Miguel de Allende Elopement | Beth & Shannon’s Historic Courtyard Wedding in Centro
Beth and Shannon’s elopement in San Miguel de Allende was the kind of day that feels alive with history, music, and joy—perfectly fitting for a couple who truly embrace life to the fullest. For their celebration, they chose an incredible Airbnb in the heart of centro, a Mexican Colonial casa originally built in 1630. With its historic architecture, thoughtful details, and timeless charm, it felt like stepping into another era while still being surrounded by warmth, color, and life.
I began photographing their day with getting ready moments inside the casa. Beth’s wedding dress was absolutely perfect for San Miguel—effortless, elegant, and beautifully suited to the old stone walls and tiled floors. Her head wreath added a romantic, bohemian touch, and her white boots were such a fun and stylish nod to her personality. Every detail felt intentional, yet relaxed, just like Beth and Shannon themselves.
As the afternoon unfolded, the skies began to darken. Just before their first look, the rain arrived—one of those dramatic San Miguel downpours. We quickly adapted, moving their first look beneath a balcony overhang that overlooked the courtyard below. The sound of the rain, the intimacy of the moment, and the way they looked at each other made it incredibly special. When the rain continued, they decided to move their cake cutting to before the ceremony, leaning fully into the unpredictability of the day with smiles and laughter.
Then, as if on cue, the rain stopped. The courtyard—lush with flowers and greenery—was ready. Their ceremony took place surrounded by historic walls and vibrant plant life, personal vows, and a meaningful copal blessing to call in sacred energy. They honored their mothers, Patsy and Mary, and loved ones both present and in spirit, grounding the ceremony in gratitude and love.
Beth and Shannon’s story is deeply rooted in music, travel, and connection—from meeting outside their favorite bar in New Orleans to realizing they couldn’t be apart at a Dead & Company show in Boulder. Choosing San Miguel, a place neither had visited before, was about creating something entirely their own—new memories in a city that celebrates life as boldly as they do.
After the ceremony, we wandered toward the Jardín and Parroquia for portraits, where San Miguel truly came alive. We ran into mariachis, traditional mojigangas, and even a parade for the Fiesta de la Alborada. It was vibrant, spontaneous, and full of joy—just like Beth and Shannon. Their elopement wasn’t just a wedding day; it was a celebration of love, music, and the beautiful art of creating joy wherever you go.
